In a unique collaboration with The Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center and the Silva Watson Moonwalk Fund, we are establishing the Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center right in the middle of Hollywood. We are immensely pleased and honored to be a part of this project and invite you to become involved as well.
The Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center will be located in The Village at Ed Gould Plaza, 1125 N. McCadden Place, Los Angeles, and will present top notch, illuminating live theatre, art exhibits, and other events benefiting the community. The Village, which opened in June 1998, is already home to dozens of cultural arts events that bring the community together for exciting, empowering, and inspirational bodies of work. The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Village is also home to two theatres, the Renberg Theatre and the Davidson/Valentini Theatre, which showcase a variety of productions throughout the year. Within the same building is a cutting-edge art gallery, the Advocate Gallery, which offers monthly exhibits of work by well-known as well as up-and-coming artists, highlighting both emerging and established visual artists.
The original funds for the Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts
Center have been contributed by the Silva Watson Moonwalk Fund, a
San Francisco charitable organization created by Douglas Watson and Larry
Silva. Doug and Larry first met in July 1969, on the day humans walked
on the moon, and their relationship continued for 25 years, until Larry
died in 1994. Following Larry's death, Doug spent the next year, the last
of his life, designing a non-profit entity that would fulfill their vision
of helping other people achieve the quality of life they enjoyed. This
dream became the Silva Watson Moonwalk Fund, which was named to commemorate
the day they met. Since 1997, the Moonwalk Fund has contributed nearly
$3,000,000 to charitable organizations all over California. Although we
never had the honor of meeting Doug and Larry, we are delighted to further
their vision by collaborating with the Moonwalk Fund and the LAGLC on
this project.
Our goal is to raise funds for people in need through presentation of cultural events and performances in a variety of media. The revenues earned through the Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center will be used in part to provide services for people with HIV or AIDS and to enhance other programs at the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. Our one-of-a-kind venue will welcome the entire community to celebrate and share in the wonderful experience of art. If you would like to support this worthwhile and exciting project by becoming a benefactor to the Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center, we welcome any contribution you would like to send. You can send your contribution to: Friends of the Center, Lily Tomlin Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center, 1625 N. Schrader Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90028.
