"1983 on Lake Travis in Austin. I was playing U of Texas at Austin. Same year I met Ann Richards and was bowled over by her and her spirit and subsequently did fundraisers for her when she ran for State Treasurer and won and for the Governorship and won. Ann and Liz Carpenter (Lady Bird's Secretary) and I all share the same birthday, September 1. The boat I was diving off of belonged to Ruth Denney, head of the theatre department at UT and a legend around those parts. Ruth has since retired but her students include Tommy Tune, Sandy Duncan, Jaclyn Smith and countless others."
